Life Path Numbers Explained: Your Numerology Guide for 2026
What your life path number reveals about your purpose, strengths and challenges. Plus how to calculate yours and apply it daily.
Your life path number is the single most important number in numerology. Calculated from your birth date, it reveals the lessons your life is built around: the kind of work you naturally do well, the patterns you keep returning to, and the people you tend to attract. It's also the anchor for the rest of your chart: every other number in a numerology reading is read against it.
How to calculate your life path
Add the digits of your birth day, month, and year. Reduce each to a single digit, except for the master numbers 11, 22, and 33, which stay as they are.
Example: born August 22, 2001
- Day: 22 → 22 (master, kept)
- Month: 8 → 8
- Year: 2 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 3
- Total: 22 + 8 + 3 = 33 (master)
Why reduce at all? Numerology reads the numbers 1 through 9 as distinct energies, and the reduction is what maps any birth date onto that set. The masters are the exception: 11, 22, and 33 keep their double digits because they carry more to work with.

Using your life path daily
Knowing your number isn't the point. Living from it is.
- Morning prompt: "What would my life path do here?"
- Decision prompt: "Does this feed my number, or fight it?"
- Weekly review: track one moment where your number led you well.
Two habits make this stick. Tie the morning prompt to a fixed moment, coffee or commute, so it doesn't depend on motivation. And keep the weekly review to a single sentence: a journal entry you'll actually write beats a perfect one you won't.
